The Grönberg Foundation for Medical Research was founded in May 2000. The assets of the foundation are based on a donation made by the spouses Lei and Gösta Grönberg. The purpose of the foundation is to provide the Swedish Research Council with economical means to continue its research on cardiovascular diseases.
The assets of the foundation currently amounts to about SEK 80 million and in 2005, the foundation donated SEK 2.5 million to medical research in Sweden. The foundation is administered by a board consisting of three members. Grönberg and the Swedish Research Council each appoint one member, and the third member is appointed by those members.
